GREAT LEADERS ARE MADE (GLAM) WOMEN’S FINAL PUBLIC PROGRAM

It is with gratitude, great pride and sadness, that The AHAA Team and I announce the end of our public programs, Great Leaders Are Made (GLAM) Womens’ Leadership Development, both online and face-to-face, on 30 November 2023. Our final public program will be run on 2, 16 and 30 November at The Boathouse in Canberra.

Over 12 years, we have run 52 programs in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Darwin and online, with over 1,200 participants. We have awarded 87 scholarships valued at $260,000 to young females under 30 years of age, small business owners and entrepreneurs and leaders in the Not-For-Profit sector.

We have also financially supported numerous charities who focus on women and children in need, and mental health. These have included Brave Hearts, The Butterfly Foundation, Legacy (Defence), Camp Quality, The Humpty Dumpty Foundation, R U OK, Headspace, Dressed for Success, Sydney Women’s Fund, Minerva Network, UNICEF, Family Life (Vic) and Lou’s Place.

GLAM set out to create a safe and supportive environment for women of all ages, professions, and organisations to develop, explore and share their leadership experiences. The program covered communication styles and their impact, active listening, gender and generational differences at work, career management, personal branding, goal setting, and leading the future workforce.

Over 50% of all participants were promoted within 12 months, received additional responsibilities, and increased remuneration, or accepted more senior positions with more authority and remuneration in other organisations.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our ambassadors for their wisdom, advice, insights and support over the past 10 years – Wendy McCarthy, Ann Sherry, Retd. Maj General Simone Wilkie, Megan Etheridge, Graeme Cowan, Nareen Young, Jen Dalitz, Jo Cavanagh, Jen Wittwer and Hetty Johnson.

I would like to thank my team, past and present, including Melissa Volpi, Martin Heffernan, Selena McNulty and David Kwasha, and all our service providers, without whom this program would not have been possible.

I personally would like to encourage everyone to continue to actively support gender and pay equity, as while we have come a long way, we still have much further to go.
